POINT5 is the house wire of Audio Mijinko, the small Tokyo workshop whose hand made cables have earned a cult following in Japan. Everything about it is chosen for one result: a soft, warm, easy to listen to sound.
The conductor: DF-OFC, inside and outBoth the centre conductor and the shield use DF-OFC, dip formed oxygen free copper. The process was originally developed by General Electric and is manufactured in Japan by Showa Electric Wire and Cable. A core wire is passed through molten copper and hot rolled, producing oxygen free copper with a smooth, continuous surface and none of the stress of conventional drawing. Sonically, DF-OFC sits flat with a faint warmth, and it is the conductor Mijinko themselves call their top recommendation.
ConstructionThe centre conductor is 0.5sq, made from fifty fine 0.12mm strands twisted together. Many fine strands mean two things: the cable bends easily, and the tone leans delicate rather than coarse. Insulation is flex resistant PVC. The shield is a spiral wrap rather than a braid, chosen because spiral shields stay flexible where braids go stiff. The outer jacket is Mijinko's own XT sheath, an extra soft PVC they developed in house.The result is a cable that is thin, supple and a genuine pleasure to work with. It routes behind tight racks, bends around corners, and never fights you.
QBT treatedSince 2021, every metre of POINT5 is run through Mijinko's QBT treatment device before cutting. QBT is their proprietary conditioning process, applied to the wire before it becomes your cable.
