Most speaker cables are designed to do everything. The SC-HR1300 was designed to do one thing properly: carry high frequencies without adding vibration induced haze. Kripton developed it as the tweeter cable in their SC-HR series, alongside the SC-HR1500 for mid and low frequencies.
The conductor: PC-Triple C around a magnesium coreThe conductor is six strands of 0.7mm PC-Triple C continuous crystal copper, rope twisted around a 0.7mm solid magnesium core wire. Total cross section is 2.3sq per leg.PC-Triple C is forged copper. The copper is struck tens of thousands of times at a fixed angle and direction under light pressure, aligning the crystal structure in the direction of signal flow and closing the microscopic voids that impede conduction. The wire is then drawn and annealed at precisely controlled temperature and time for the specific gauge, fusing the crystals into a continuous structure. The result is low distortion and fast, clean transient response.
Why magnesiumMagnesium has exceptional vibration damping properties. Placing a solid magnesium wire at the exact centre of the conductor bundle means the micro vibration generated by the high frequency music signal is absorbed at the source, before it can smear the treble. The magnesium core is electrically conductive, so it works as part of the conductor, not just dead weight.
Air damping structureAround the insulated conductor, Kripton winds three hollow polyethylene pipes and a paper tape wrap. This traps air inside the cable and stops the internal elements from pressing hard against each other. Air is an excellent dielectric and an excellent damper. Together with the magnesium core, this structure is what gives the cable its quiet background and transparent top end.
FinishPolyethylene insulation over each conductor, red and black for polarity, inside a dark blue flame resistant polyolefin outer sheath. Finished diameter 8.5mm. No shield, no mesh. Kripton deliberately keeps shields away from high frequency signal runs, as shielding near a tweeter signal restricts treble extension.
Where it fitsKripton designed this cable for tweeter duty in bi-wire systems, paired with the SC-HR1500 on the mid and bass legs. In practice it also performs superbly as a full range single wire on stand mounts and efficient speakers, where its 2.3sq gauge, quiet background and detail retrieval shine. For large three way floorstanders with heavy current demands, use it on the high terminals and a heavier gauge cable on the lows.
